JIS donates aid to special needs students

THE Junior School at Jerudong International School (JIS) recently hosted a donation handover ceremony with support from the Special Needs Unit at Katok ‘A’ Primary Schools in line with their special fundraising week.

Acting Director of Education at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Hajah Anis Faudzulani binti Haji Dzulkiflee was the guest of honour.

Also present were Acting Head of the Special Education Unit (SEU) Haji Ali Yusri bin Abdul Ghafor in his capacity as the Chairperson of IKHLAS, Head of JIS’ Junior School Paul Bannister, SEU officers and JIS staff.

Aimed to raise money for children with special needs in Brunei, the students participated in activities throughout that week, raising BND8,800.

A total of 17 selected students with special needs from different schools received special equipment and learning resources.

Haji Ali Yusri hoped that the special equipment and learning sources will further enhance the students’ participation in class and make their learning experience more meaningful.

He said, “The handover ceremony illustrates the continuous collaborative efforts between the SEU through the IKHLAS initiative and JIS in line with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4.A. IKHLAS sets out to meet the needs of special needs students, help them overcome learning barriers, enhance their accessibility and independence in school and at home as well as to realise Vision 2035.”
